So you want to train your dog some tricks? Well you've found the right place!! Here we have some tricks you can teach your dog fairly easily, just remember to always be very positive about it and don't worry if he takes awhile to get it, he will learn eventually!
doggy crouching
Crawl
With your dog in the "DOWN" position (he must have learnt down first), Hold a treat just in front of his nose so he can smell it, slowly pulling the treat away say "Crawl" if he starts to stand up just say "No, Crawl" keep pulling the treat low near to the ground and keep saying "Crawl" when your dog starts moving say "Good Dog!"
Shake Hands
Once your dog is sitting, say "Shake Hands" then take his paw with your hand, while holding it say, "Good Dog" then let go of his paw, you could also give him a treat if you would like.
If you do this a few times every day he should learn it pretty fast! After doing this for awhile say "Shake Hands" but do not touch him this time, see if he can do it by himself, if he still won’t do it on his own don't worry just keep showing him till he can!
Wave
After teaching your dog how to shake hands, facing your dog, hold out your hand as if you were to shake his paw. When your dog lifts her paw do not grab it, pull back your hand and say "wave!". Then give your dog her treat! You may have to tease her a little with your hand to make her think you’re going to shake her hand. You can also try waving your hand a little to get the waving motion going on!
Roll Over
With your dog laying on his belly, Stand over him or kneel beside him, grab a treat and hold it by his nose then slowly move it behind him so he first goes on his side then rolls over, while doing this say "Roll Over!". Be sure to praise him when he completes the trick! Keep this trick for soft surfaces, your dog might not like rolling over so if he doesn’t seem to like it, try another trick.
Sleepy?
When you see your dog yawn say "Sleepy?" after doing this enough he will learn those words and will eventually yawn whenever he hears them. This may take a long time to teach this trick, be sure to praise him every time he does it.
Which one?
With a treat in one of your hands, show your dog then close both hands so all he sees is two fists. Hold your fists in front of you a small distance apart and say "Which One?" Your dog will probably try biting your fists to get the treat, don’t open your hands. Wait till he decides to use his paw, if you wait long enough he will! When he touches the correct hand give him the treat.
Beg
With your dog sitting facing you, hold his most loved treat or toy above his head and tell him "Say Please". Your dog probably will try climb up with his front feet to reach the treat or toy. As soon as you see the feet lifting even a small bit, give him the treat or toy.
This may take awhile to teach, each time you train him wait a little bit longer before giving the reward. This trick also helps teach balance to your dog. Don't let him fall though!
Fetch
When playing with your dog throw his toy away from him, when he runs after it say "Fetch!!" If your dog doesn't usually fetch, try using a treat dispensing toy, make sure he knows his treats are inside it and then throw it.
Play Dead
With your dog laying on his tummy, gently roll him over on his side saying "Play Dead" while he is laying there on his side keep his head on the floor repeat the command "Play Dead" try to encourage him to stay there for a little while. Then say "Good Dog!" or "Wake Up!" when he stands up give him his treat!
Kiss
Your dog's always licking your face huh? See he already knows this one! Now lets add a command to it. Every time your dog licks your face say "Good boy! Give me a kiss!!" He should pick it up pretty quick, if he isnt naturally a licker, try a little peanut butter on your cheek.
Turn Around
Get your dog to stand up and face you, and then show him a treat in your hand. With the treat say "Turn Around" and lead the dog’s nose around clockwise with the treat so he walks in a circle. When he’s facing you again say "Good Dog!" and then let him have the treat.
After doing this for awhile, hold the treat in your hand so your dog can see it then say the "Turn Around" command again but not leading him, soon he shall be able to do it himself!
Go Back
This is a very handy trick which is really easy to teach! Face your dog and walk toward him, keep saying "Go Back", He will automatically walk backwards as he will want to get out of the way.
