This is a great place to start if you have got a new puppy! Here are some basic training commands for your dog!
Sit!
This has to be one of the most used commands, but you still have to teach him!! A great way of teaching your dog to sit is to have a treat in your hand and lift it up above his head between his ears, the dog will naturally sit. Every time you do this say "Sit" and he will learn it really fast!
Once he starts doing this, before you feed him grab one of his pieces of food and do the same thing with him, before long he will be sitting before dinner!
Down
While your dog is standing or sitting, let your dog sniff a treat near his nose but do not let him have it yet. Lower the treat to the floor, while doing this your dog should follow it down. As this is happening say "down" as he begins to get lower. When he is all the way lowered to the floor give him the treat and repeat saying "down" many times "Good dog! Down!"
Off
If your dog is on something he shouldn't be, use the command "off" and help him off. He will soon realise whenever you say this he should get off. If he is not doing it straight away it is okay to help him just make sure you say "off" at the same time. Be sure to use this same command if he ever jumps up on you when you don't want him to.

If you have a small to medium size dog, get your butcher to cut a large bone into three or four pieces, and then freeze the spares.
