Well Sharon I like the sound of what you give yours, Herbie seems to get a mixture of things he also likes minced beef but I usual give him raw but might try boiling it also the chicken as well

I have been giving him the recipe from another forum, you know the one, also Herbie has sardines as well but keep forgetting the raw egg so will give that to him I am not so methodical as you and don't measure it out so will do from now on.

I am going to try the terrier mix that they sell at our local feed shop as that was also recommended also do yours still have a chicken wing? Herbie does but only once a week but I forget to give him less in the evening he usual has a treat (Homemade or a natural like the trip stick) when we have our lunch. (you can see why hes overweight!!!)

Actually when he has his coat shaved he looks a lot thinner (he he)

Hi girls been really busy with Xmas so not been on,Tesco biscuit Meal is fine to use as terrier meal, heats are fine fed raw,my 2 love them,if Travis looks a little heavy I just cut his food slightly until he looks okay and vise versa if he looks like he could do with a little extra, :)

Thanks Mel, thats actual what I have been useing (the Tesco biscuit) as I had some to use up so thats great I can continue using it

I think I have been overfeeding Herbie so think that if I just give him a little less he should be fine

Oh and it's great to see you back, glad you had a good Christmas :yay:

Xmas was great, but I am knackered, very unusual for us but the house has been really busy with people visiting,Ruby has also gained weight since she has been with us,in her last home she was fed crap in a bag, here she is fed raw and homecooked, when I mentioned this to Kiz she explained that as she is having good wholesome food she is absorbing it all and only putting out a small amount of waste,so I have to watch her really closely

Happy New Year, Mel! Glad you're back  I think I'll just have to ignore Doug's "pleading look" and cut down his evening meal!! After all dogs are always "starving"are'nt they?
I still try mine with chicken wings but both of them turn their noses up at it! :? Great! especially as I've stocked up on wings! I tried searing them in a frying pan, but they still leave them!...Oh well at least I can curry them or something for the kids! lol I did read somewhere that raw chicken is the blandest meat to dogs, so maybe that's it?

Before I came on these forums, that's all mine ate....every single day! Well that and commercial treats! They still enjoy it mind you, but I have read that by cooking the meat, all the goodness is destroyed. :?
Liz, have you noticed any changes in Herbie since starting raw?
Doug seems more affable around other dogs in the park and is generally more calm, but has gained a bit of weight!
Jack 's weight has'nt really changed, but he's become very "growly" and protective of his bones. If anyone rings the doorbell, he starts growling and rushes to pick up as many bones as he can find. Poor Doug can't leave his bones for a second or Jack pinches them, and Doug let's him!! I find it much easier to clear up from their "other end"too! lol

Herbie is a lot better with other dogs too, he still is a bit growly but compared to what he was like it's an improvement..... but also we have been doing a lot more commands with him which we weren't doing before so probably it's everything

The other end bit is better too as you say easier to clear up

Herbie is calmer around othr dogs as he isn't hyped up with additives,(like feeding kids smarties for every meal),Jack has become growly as his bones are a high resourse to him,try swapping his bones for something even better in his eyes,I get this with Ruby even though she cannot even eat her bones :D

Aww Poor Ruby, do you still give her bones to suck on Mel?
I'm trying to break Jack of this habit, so when he gets growly I say No! and take the bone off him for a few minutes. He lets me take them, no problem, when he calms down(not long) I tell him Be good! and he gets the bone back. I hope this will break the habit by showing him that I'm in charge of bones...not him!

We haven't had any problems with Herbie and bones, but then he's on his own and hasn't got any competition

But sounds like you are doing the right thing by showing Jack who is boss

Had to laugh today got a turkey leg from Tesco's and decided to boil it and cut it up for Herbie instead of giving it raw. JJ came in and said it smelt awful and who had I murdered!!!!!!

Kept the stock to use in soup so it had many uses nothing is wasted in this house

Must admit Sharon since I've given him the quantities that you give yours he's got more energy so I must of been over feeding him
