Mel, do Travis and Ruby try to pinch each others bones? And is Travis the alpha dog?

Hello guys and sorry if I'm hijacking this thread. I'm new to this forum.
My girl, 2.5 year lab has been on home made raw for 2 years now, with great success.
(chicken, vegies, fruit all raw + oil acids and probiotics)
She just had a really bad episode of colitis. (IMO not related to her diet)
She had to spend few days in a hospital.
Vet recommends ONLY cooked chicken and rice for at least a week.
Any thoughts? I'm following their orders due to circumstances.

Ruby is top dog in this house, before we got Ruby if Travis heard strange footsteps coming down the path he would bark, after a few days of Ruby being here he stopped and Ruby has taken over,I feed them in separate rooms as Ruby is very slow eating compared to Travis, but once she has finished eating I put them back together where Ruby will go and check what he has left her to eat,Ruby never leaves anything for Travis :D

I would stick to either chicken and overcooked white rice or chicken and plain mashed potatoe ,I find mashed potatoe works better than rice

Thanks for your reply. I guess I forgot to mention that she is allergic to pretty much all grains and potato as well.
Will try with just some boiled/ mashed carrots :(
It sucks when a dog is sick.

That's interesting, Mel. I've noticed this last few weeks that Jack is top dog here.....When it comes to food, bones, meals or treats, Doug will not take anything until Jack has his! I assumed Doug would have been top, as he was here first.

When Travis stopped barking and not eating all his food I thought there was a problem with his, after a conversation with Kiz she explained just because he has been here longer it doesn't mean that he will be pack leader,I just automatically thought he would,he's like a typical man he just lays back and allows Ruby to do all the work :D

For ages my two have seemed to share being top dog, in different circumstances...but more and more I can see Jack is taking over. I think Doug just rolls his eyes and thinks ...Oh get on with it!!

Doug sounds very laid back lol

Herbie is still getting on well with the quantities that you give Jack and Doug

That's good Liz. So does Herbie have homecooked every day ?
I don't know if Doug is laid back....I think he's a bit scared to argue with Jack!

Yes it's seems to be that way - after reading on the other site about the uncooked mince story it's got me a bit worried although I always freeze before giving it to him raw

But still give him raw chicken wings (frozen first and then defrosted)

Anyone interested in the BARF diet---a lot to "bone" up on-----Go to: http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm#plans. I thought I was doing a good job with the way I was feeding---raw but not the right way!
