Prey Model is just 100% raw meat and bones, unlike BARF which includes veggies and some grains. I usually get the meat from a local organic market and friends who are hunters (lol I have about 50lbs of Elk in my freezer right now).
I used to be part of a co-op, where there were 5 or 6 members who all ordered in bulk for lower meat prices (the more you buy, the better price you get per pound) but I had to drive to Denver for that and it was getting a bit pricey.
Honestly, dogs rarely get salmonella, but you have to prepare the meat, so you have to be very careful for yourself and make sure to clean your preparation area thoroughly, your hands (and arms, face, heck, just take a shower when you're done,

.) and anything you have touched while preparing the meat. Rhea doesn't use a bowl (we just chuck her food outside, less mess that way and then clean the patio area afterwards with a power hose) but if your dogs do, be sure to wash it after every use. I've been feeding raw for about 6 years and haven't gotten salmonella yet.
The dogs were very happy today. It was clean out the fridge and freezer day and anything that was healthy for them went in their bowls. They all got elk, milk, egg, cheese, and some green beans
