Dogs Next Door and Irresponsible Owners.

Postby MarvDeb4584 on Mon Oct 29, 2007 2:46 pm

Hi all,

Well its 9:39am here and I've been listening to the male dog next door bark and pound at his front door for 45 minutes so far. Now here comes the vent.

They have 4 dogs at the moment, 2 females (in heat) and 2 males (unfixed). The one male is 5 1/2 years old and they've had him for about 2-3 weeks now, but he's not the reason I'm so upset.

The dogs next door are the male 4, the one female 3, and the other 2 roughly in age, I may be off a year on the male and the youngest female. Anyways, Those poor females end up pregnant every heat cycle. These owners throw the females and male out in the yard together, then wonder why the females are pregnant again. Now they are sort of friends of ours and I don't want to start a fight with them, but I am generally very concerned and worried for these females. The two just had puppies in and around June I think it was and still haven't regained all the weight they lost. Other than worried for the females, listening to a deranged male wanting females is getting on my nerves.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? You'd think with them selling these pups for $150.00 they could take some of the money and FIX these dogs. Since they take the pups into the vet every time to have the tails docked and dew claws removed and get their shots. Should the vet, not be asking them or advising them on all these litters?

These dogs are also Jack russells who never get out of their yard for a walk or play time. Play time is in the yard or in the house. Starting to drive me insane all the dog owners around here who have larger dogs than a jack or sheltie and NEVER walk their dogs. They spend their lives in a fenced in small yard or in the house.

People like this make me sick, they are not going to get the Males or females sterilized as they will miss the money they are gaining from the litter's they produce

I can understand how you wouldn't want to start a fight or have any bad feelings on either side. I mean, these are your neighbors and, unless you plan to move soon, you will most likely be having to live with them for awhile. However, I would still try to have a talk with them. As incredible as it may sound, it's possible that they really do not know what they are doing is wrong. Perhaps you could give them some literature or direct them to a couple of informational websites. I wouldn't think you would come off as confrontational that way, but you can never tell. I would bet even if they don't speak with you for awhile, they would at least check things out and verify what you were telling them. Also, maybe you aren't the only neighbors who are dismayed with this situation and others can talk with them as well. Good luck!

It really is a problem cos the RSPCA are not really interested if they are feed and watered and look healthy enough.

Its also a problem that they are your friends sorry that I can't help you but I do feel for you

Having dealt with neighbors for similiar issues  and talking with people in my daily interactions as a dog trainer I would suggest you might want to consider that in situations such as these humans do not generally respond well  to constructive crtitizm, advice, or requests. :o
I have had neigbors who did not respond well to my interference in there endevors and tried to get back at me  in various ways which takes the fun out of having neighbors.

I would check for local animal control ordinaces that should describe times and circumstances that are violations and report them if it comes down to it. You might send them a annonomouse letter from a printer and mail it from another location so that it cannot be traced to you and although they may suspect it came from certain people they will never know and hopefuly they will make adjustments.
:gluck: I feel your pain!

I agree with Kinderwood. A good friend/neighbor would have an informative discussion. You need not berate or condescend them, but a mature adult would be honest and present the facts.

I know it's hard to confront someone, especially a friend. Still, it's the right thing to do. I personally would rather someone come to me with a problem. I would be more mad if someone I considered a friend went behind my back and called the SPCA without coming to me first.
Whoever said money can't buy happiness never got a puppy.

poor little dogs, my parents have jack's and they have breed them in the past....but one litter every 2 years 2 litters per bitch per life....they are great dogs but keeping them locked up will make them crazy....my folks live on a farm and the dogs can run amock a couple of times a day....thier kennel is a converted stable....i would sit down with your neighbour and discuss what is happening....like adults....perhaps over coffee or a drink....perhaps offer to help financially to have the dogs fixed or even offer to help walk or excersize the dogs... :gluck: let us know how it turns out.

Can't you call RSPCA or something? We dont have that here, but maybe you do. They could take the puppies and tell your neighbors what to do to help the females gain weight.
Or you could tell them. It's not a reason for a fight.
