why did you choose your dog

What made you choose the dog you own,was it a breed you always wanted,or was there another reason :)

We always wanted a Dalmation, but they were way to expensive so we found these LabraDals and we fell in love

We found my Lab/Chow mix boy sitting under a porch of an abandoned house. Turns out he was dumped by a Lab breeder in the area who had a litter of mix puppies. I have never liked Labs or Chows but being around him has made love both breeds. When I got my beagle, she was bred by my uncle so I saw her and her brother and I liked the female better so I got her for free, she just passed away a year ago. Now I am getting another Beagle because I love the breed so much.

Well I live in a gated community. The rules are we aren't allowed to have any dogs that contain Lab, Shepherd, Chow, Rott, Doberman, or Pitbull. Now these rules have been bent with people moving in. People have also ended up evicted because of their pets being dangerous to the children on the community.

So when I did my research on dog breeds I came across the shetland sheepdog. Now I read they are loyal, loving and intelligent. When I saw an ad in the paper about some, Marvin and I went to take a look. There were 15 to look at. 2 different litters.

Well I held female # 1 and I didn't feel any connection with her and she seemed very disinterested. Then I held female # 2 (Zita) and she was kissing me and happy. I handed her off to see a couple of males. Well I held male 1 and didn't care too much for him. Meanwhile Zita had wiggled her way out of the breeders arms and was at my feet jumping up trying to get back to me. So I handed the male back and bent down and Zita curled in my lap. So Zita chose me and I brought her home. I've never regretted her picking me and my bringing her home. Everyday she makes me happier and fall more in love with her.

I grew up with an Alaskan Malamute and My Partner Steve grew up with a Husky...

So of course we knew it had to be one of those breeds and I think the size of a fully grown Mal was a bit much for Steve so we decided on a Husky...

We went to a breeder to only have a look then go home and think about it... but of course as soon as I saw Drake I was in love! (he was the only puppy left out of the litter)

a few months later we decided we needed to get another one to keep Drake entertained while we were at work.. We went to a different breeder and got first pick.. all the puppies were sleepy coz they had just had their shots and been fed... and as soon as we walkedd into the room Meika was the only one who jumped up and started wagging her tail..
When we held her she showered us with kisses, all the other dogs just kinda layed there... So Meika was the one...

Sorry its so long!

My service dogs always choose me. You can't really train a dog to alert to seizures so when I'm looking for a new service dog, it takes awhile to find one cause it has to be a dog that connects with me right away.

I searched humane societies and rescues for almost a year before I found Rhea and we just clicked right away. She was almost 2 when I got her. There's something about this dog that I just can't explain. I've had 3 service dogs before her and she's quite unlike any of them and the best service dog I've had by far.

Lol, with Achilles, my husband just came home with him one day. He's never allowed to go to the humane society alone again. I guess they had an entire litter of Plott puppies and he just couldn't resist. Of course, a week later he got deployed and I got to raise a 7 week old puppy by myself for 8 months. Not that I minded too much tho. :)

With Libby, my husband and I were in Germany visiting my cousin who is stationed there and we just happened to go check out a Shepherd breeder while we were there who had an older female who was just returned because she was cut from police training because she wasn't working out. I met the dog and she and I just clicked and I felt she would make a good service dog so we brought her back with us.

And now I'm never allowed near dogs that need homes... lol. At least for a awhile anyway. :)

My SO has seriously bad dog allergies. It's not like he just gets itchy, watery eyes and a cough. No. It sends his asthma into overdrive and almost completely shuts down his airways. It doesn't improve when he's away from the dogs, either. He stays like that for about 3 days. That's after 20 mins. to a half hour of exposure. Needless to say, we had to find a hypoallergenic breed. I started to research the temperaments of the different hypo breeds. I wanted a dog that wasn't too hyper, and that would cling to me like hot death on a corpse. That's why I went with the Maltese. I had never had a small dog before, and didn't really want one. Now that I have had one, I will never go back to big dogs. I love them and love to play with them here at the daycare, but my house stays much neater with the small dog. That, and I can sneak him into places in his doggy bag.

I now have the Mini Schnauzer also, and I am completely hooked on the breed. They are Rotties in little bodies. So solid and sturdy, loving, and play with the tiniest Chihuahuas, up to the Great Danes. I would love to do conformation with a Mini Schnauzer.
Whoever said money can't buy happiness never got a puppy.

A friend of mine found Puky on the streets. It was a very cold and rainy night, and she heard something "squeeking" outside her porch. When she went to see what it was, she found a black little dog shivering. She took her inside, fed her and the next morning, she came to me and asked me if i want to have a dog. I said "yes". And since then, she belongs to me :D
