Rattie urinary problem

Postby jacktherattie on Sun Dec 21, 2008 6:05 pm

I have a rat terrier that relieves himself when we leave the room. every since we got him 2 years ago he will pee on the TV, stereo speakers, the coffee table and the couch. Its not a lot, it makes me feel like he is marking but he was nurtured when we got him. I have tried the sprays to keep him away from the areas but they don't seem to work and so now I have to crate him up when I leave the living room. Because of this problem we don't allow him anywhere else in the house. What do you guys think I should do to stop this bad behavior?

You are starting off in the right direction by crating Jack. Unfortunately you need to untrain the bad behavior and train the good behavior. Eventually he will learn, but it will take patience from you and Mark as well as Jack. You might, in the future, leave Jack in the room and watch him from a distance. If he looks like he is going to pee, sniffing around but before he raises his leg, take him outside immediately.
